Santa Claus is coming to town this weekend as the annual Johnston County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is planned to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The theme of the parade this year is “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” based upon the popular Christmas song.

SantaLine-up of floats and vehicle entries begins at 9:15 a.m. at the Tishomingo High School Football Field, with walkers and bicyclists meeting on the corner of North Byrd St. at the First Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m.

The parade will proceed from east to west down Main Street of Tishomingo and ending at Capitol Ave.

Judging for float entries will be held as floats pass the review stand to be located between Neshoba and Kemp Streets. Awards will be given for First, Second and Third Place floats. Randy McCollom will be serving as MC again this year.

With a chance of thunderstorms in the area forecast for Saturday, if the parade should be cancelled due to inclement weather, it will be moved to the same time Saturday, Dec. 19. Check social media for the latest updates.

Naughty or Nice?

Immediately following the parade from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa Claus and his counterpart, The Grinch, will both be on hand for pictures and hearing Christmas wishes at Platinum Ballroom located at The Ladysmith Bed & BreakfPictures-of-the-Grinch-Who-Stole-Christmas-1ast in downtown Tishomingo.

Photographs of children with Santa or The Grinch, as well as family portraits will be made available free of charge by Murray State College and the Chamber.

The event at Platinum Ballroom will be held rain or shine.

In addition to the Saturday events, the Chamber is also sponsoring two Christmas decorating contests, one for businesses and one for residences. Winners will be awarded first, second and third place certificates. Participants must notify the Chamber by Dec. 17 if they want to enter.

$5,000 Cash Giveaway Dec. 19

Meanwhile, the Chamber’s “Santa Bucks” Christmas Shopping Promotion continues in full swing.

Shoppers at participating merchants in Johnston County will receive one “Santa Buck” for every $10 spent on a single purchase up to 200 tickets ($2,000 ).

Santa Bucks may be entered into two drawings to be held Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on the corner of South Kemp and Main Street for chances to win thousands of dollars in cash giveaways by the Chamber.

A total of $5,000 cash will be awarded to 27 lucky winners during the drawings. Participants must be present to win and will be given 60 seconds to claim their prize.

Thirteen winners will be announced at the 2 p.m. drawing as follows: one $500 winner; two $250 winners and ten $100 winners.

The drawing at 3 p.m. will include tickets and winners for the same amounts, plus the Grand Prize Winner of $1,000 cash.

Winners will be able to pick up their prize money immediately after the drawings at a location to be announced that day.
