Santa Claus is coming to town this weekend as the annual Johnston County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is planned to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
The theme of the parade this year is “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” based upon the popular Christmas song.
Line-up of floats and vehicle entries begins at 9:15 a.m. at the Tishomingo High School Football Field, with walkers and bicyclists meeting on the corner of North Byrd St. at the First Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m.
The parade will proceed from east to west down Main Street of Tishomingo and ending at Capitol Ave.
Judging for float entries will be held as floats pass the review stand to be located between Neshoba and Kemp Streets. Awards will be given for First, Second and Third Place floats. Randy McCollom will be serving as MC again this year.
With a chance of thunderstorms in the area forecast for Saturday, if the parade should be cancelled due to inclement weather, it will be moved to the same time Saturday, Dec. 19. Check social media for the latest updates.
Naughty or Nice?
Immediately following the parade from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa Claus and his counterpart, The Grinch, will both be on hand for pictures and hearing Christmas wishes at Platinum Ballroom located at The Ladysmith Bed & Breakfast in downtown Tishomingo.
Photographs of children with Santa or The Grinch, as well as family portraits will be made available free of charge by Murray State College and the Chamber.
The event at Platinum Ballroom will be held rain or shine.
In addition to the Saturday events, the Chamber is also sponsoring two Christmas decorating contests, one for businesses and one for residences. Winners will be awarded first, second and third place certificates. Participants must notify the Chamber by Dec. 17 if they want to enter.
