August 20, 2015—Summer may be winding down, but visitors to Tishomingo will have the chance to send it out with a bang this week as the Tishomingo Merchant Association hosts its final Summer Nights celebration of the 2015 season.

The event will take place this Friday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m on Main Street. People of all ages are invited to attend and enjoy the music, games and other activities that have been planned for the evening.

Among the highlights of Friday’s celebration will be the “Bring the Heat” baseball throw, in which a speed gun will be used to gauge how fast participants throw; and a “Pig Skin” Throw competition for football enthusiasts.

Summer Nights LogoA music concert featuring local performer Wesley Kite will take place at the Main Street Pocket Park starting at 6 p.m. Those planning to attend are advised to bring lawn chairs.

This will be followed at 7 p.m. by an Ice Cream Social to honor the Tishomingo Lions Club’s 2015 Little Indians football teams.

The evening’s events will also include a Tie-Dye Shirt Craft program, in which participants can bring a shirt and create their own design.

At dark the Chickasaw Nation will host the latest in its series of “Movie Night at the Museums” screenings, featuring the popular science fiction blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

Other planned Summer Nights activities include face painting; Hot Wheel racing; remote control car races; caricature drawings, and Cow Patty Bingo.

The Closet Ministry will hold a summer clearance sale inside The M.A.D. House during the festival. Clothing and shoes will be available for $1 per grocery sack full, organizers have announced.

Other stores will remain open late during the Summer Nights celebration. Shoppers are advised to call their favorite store in advance to confirm their hours during the event.

Merchant Association volunteers said those planning to attend the festival should also take advantage of their night on the town to take part in other activities taking place that evening, such as attending the Tishomingo High School football scrimmage or seeing the current hit film Ant-Man at the recently opened Indie Theatre.

Although Friday marks the end of this year’s Summer Nights schedule, Merchant Association volunteers are already hard at work planning its next event. The 2015 Main Street Fall Fest has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Merchant Association’s 2015 calendar of events will conclude on Saturday, Dec. 5, with the organization’s second annual Main Street Christmas Festival.

Organizers have announced that all events are subject to change.
